Students will conclude our study of Pericles and the
comparative use of republicanism in Sparta, democracy in Athens, and
democratic-republicanism in the United States. Students will be able to
identify, explain and create examples of democracy, republic, monarchy, and
oligarchy with 94% accuracy. We will then progress to the cultural reforms
of Pericles and the Athenian play writes. Students will perform an
abridged version of Sophocles' Oedipus as perhaps the best example of Greek
tragedy. Students will be able to define the elements of Greek tragedy
with 98% accuracy.
