8th Grade American History
Students will begin focusing on causes of the American Civil War. Students will be able to describe the rise of early sectionalism in America, exhibited by John C. Calhoun and Daniel Webster among others. Students will be able to explain how the Missouri Compromise of 1820 temporarily mended the issue of state rights and the expansion of slavery. Students will analyze and interpret the Underground Railroad code, code phrases, and a sampling of slave songs. Students will create a new code and perform specific tasks as they role play as members of the Underground Railroad.
