7th Grade Geography

Students will conclude our study of the Rocky Mountains.  We will begin project presentations on 10/27.
Below is an outline of the rubric.

North American Cultural Project
Due October 27th (75 points)
Your task is to investigate the various cultures of a specific region of a North America.  You will investigate, study and learn about the different people of this region and gain a full understanding of the cultures of that area.  You will present your findings to the class.  In your study of a region, you will be asked to focus on at least one specific cultural group for in depth research and presentation.  Presentations will be between 6-8 minutes in length with a 1 minute grace on either side.  A 12% penalty will be enforced for every minute outside the grace period.  Presentations should include:
1.       Location – Where can these cultures be found? (1 point)
2.       Language – What language is spoken? Is there slang? (5 points)
3.       Traditions and customs – What annual or daily practices do they have?  (15 points)
4.       Religion – What is the type and style of their religion? (5 points)
5.       Norms and Taboos – What is normal/expected/acceptable behavior?  What isn’t? (15 points)
6.       Values – What are the judgments of right, good, or desirable? (10 points)
7.       Appearance – How do individuals appear, either by dress makeup or other means? (5 points)
8.       Food/Diet – What do they eat?  How do they eat it?  Why do they eat it? (10 points)
9.       Entertainment – What music, dance, song, movies, games are popular? (5 points)
10.    Icons – If possible, are there any significant members, or popular images from this culture (4 points)
11.    Visuals – At least 5 visuals pertaining to your topic.  All visuals are to be approved by the teacher by October 26th, or they will not be permitted.
12.    Presentation practiced in front of the teacher by October 26th earn an additional 3 points
